The people of France are desperate, food is scarce riot's are common and blood floods the streets of Paris. The Bastille fortress was stormed and thousands of men, women and children were slaughtered within the walls, claimed as traitors to the revolution.
No one is safe from the revolution, the government has taken on a rein of terror, doing all they can to please the mob and executing those of higher rank whether they are guilty or not. The guillotine is in over drive the executor claiming he is being over worked. Maximilien Robespierre theincorruptibleis the man behind the government's drastic changes, although the tyrant is a more fitting title for this dictator. But Robespierre is aware of an underground movement working against him.

Jean Valjean has moved to a small street near the centre of Paris, along with his ward Corsette. He is terrified that Javert his long-term rival will discover him and send him back to the prisons. Javert has spent his entire life hunting Jean Valjean and takes pleasure in knowing the law will be up held when this criminal in convicted.
Gentle Corsette does not know her mysterious background or the secrets her father keeps, all she knows is she is very much in love with Marius a young man whom she saw out walking with her father once. She does not however know she has a rival in the name of Eponine who is desperately in love with Marius, but knows he will never look at her the way he looks at Corsette.
